Day By Day Ringing In The New Year

January 2, 2017

2016 has brought us a lot to be thankful for here at the shelter! The New Year is a great reminder for us to take some time to stop and reflect upon our first half of season 6. Upon our opening in October we knew it was going to be a successful season. Right off the bat our meal teams were filled for the ENTIRE season within the first few weeks of opening the meal team sign up. So far this season we have served over 160 meals with the help of these wonderful meal teams. Not only are we thankful for the meals served here in our shelter, but also for every single volunteer who has donated their time and compassion to our guests and shelter. With over 197 individual volunteers so far this season and over 600 hours, we have a lot of blessings to count!

Looking at the accomplishments as the season and year advance, we are proud to say that over 20 of our shelter guests have moved out and are now in housing. The amount of guests that have transitioned into housing is larger than our organization has ever seen before; thanks to our new and emerging case management program as well as our supportive frontline staff members. We continued to see growth and success as we held our annual fundraisers. October’s annual chili Cook Off was a great way to engage with our community and celebrate fall time followed by our participation in the national event, Giving Tuesday. On Giving Tuesday we met our goal as an organization and were able to raise, and then have matched, $10,000.00! Following these two large events we have been lucky to be a part of many other community activities such as: Christmas Sing at the Grand Opera House by the Oshkosh Area Community Band and The Oshkosh Celebration of Lights just this past week.

All of our past successes and accomplishments couldn’t have been done without the help and support of our generous community. From the monetary donations we have received to all of the donation items that are dropped off on a daily basis to every single person who has donated their time, we are beyond grateful for every single dollar, item or hour you’ve donated. Here at the shelter we are excited to ring in the New Year and to continue to work towards fulfilling our mission with you by our side.

Have a happy, healthy and warm New Year from all of us here at the Day By Day Warming Shelter!
