Earlier this summer, Day By Day Warming Shelter experienced a transition in leadership as Lorraine Yarbrough assumed the position of executive director. We are now welcoming a new face into the daily operations of the shelter as current Community Engagement Coordinator, Janelle Galica, will be returning to her education background. Janelle recently graduated with a Masters degree in Literacy and Language from University of Wisconsin Oshkosh and will be serving as a literacy coach at Oshkosh West High School. Janelle has truly valued her time at Day By Day and will forever be impacted by the people she met through this experience. She plans to return during the regular season in a volunteer capacity as she feels the work done by staff and volunteers alike is of vital importance to the Oshkosh community.
As Janelle looks forward to her next life journey, we are thrilled to introduce the new Community Engagement and Resource Coordinator, McKenzie Valenta. McKenzie will be graduating from the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh with a major in Human Services Leadership and a minor in Women’s and Gender Studies. McKenzie comes to the shelter with a variety of experiences in her background. Some of her most recent positions were: working in diversity and inclusion through the university, a medical background through various positions in her hometown, and serving last season as a front line staff member and operations specialist intern right here at the shelter.
Through her compassion and love for the shelter, McKenzie is excited to put her education and past experiences towards fulfilling our mission. Serving as a volunteer through many different organizations in the Oshkosh community, McKenzie is also particularly looking forward to working firsthand with the volunteers that keep our shelter running and contribute to a sense of home for our guests.
